Journalism is all about adapting and being able to rapidly learn and produce information. This week, I certainly did that.
Although the person I was originally going to interview was unable to meet with me, I ended up interviewing someone who was amazing and refreshing. Miriam Bettant, one of the owners of Bettant Bakery in South Beach, was super understanding and patient with the recording process and incredibly willing to repeat sentences if there was an abrupt sound in the back.
In-person interviews, where you’re able to dive into the world of the interviewee, are the best. Being at the bakery and recording customer interactions and the sounds of the workers in the back was an incredibly fun experience.
When it came to the actual editing part, I loved drawing out the order of what I thought the radio piece would sound like. That made it much easier when editing the interview.
Learning how to use DeScript was a challenge but nonetheless, a fun one. However, the best part was learning from the Adobe Audition masters: Selena and Tina. I learned so much from the way they edit sound and am excited to try more features on my own.
The digital team, illustrators and everyone else were also incredibly helpful and kind. Working with my mentor, Veronica, was a blast. She is an amazing reporter full of wisdom and knowledge.
I wish Next Gen Radio didn’t have to end so soon. This week was awesome and unforgettable. I know I still have so much to learn from this amazing team and wish to be able to work with you all again.
